to the Skagit Valley

June in Skagit Valley is the perfect time to get out and explore. With the Big Game in full swing and Skagit conveniently located between two major host cities, it’s an ideal place to unwind in nature while still being close to the excitement. From scenic outdoor adventures to charming local festivals, there’s something happening around every corner this month.

Activities & Events

Burlington’s Berry Dairy Days is a beloved Skagit Valley tradition dating all the way back to 1937. This festival celebrates Burlington’s history, agriculture, farming, traditions and community, featuring activities such as the Beat the Berry Dash, Cornhole Tournament, Smoke & Grill BBQ competitions, and the Berry Cool Car Show. This year may even have a hot air balloon glow—stay tuned!

Sedro-Woolley’s annual Blast From the Past is a must for all vintage lovers and those nostalgic for the 70’s! This year’s theme is “Vintage 1976” and will have a street fair, a car show, live music and more.

The Washington Shakespearean Festival is bringing its Renaissance Festival to Skagit Valley for the first time! Step into the world of jesters, costumes and chivalry in this three-day festival for unforgettable fun.

Road Trips & Scenic Drives

Skagit Valley is home to some of the most scenic road trips in the Pacific Northwest. If you find yourself traveling from Seattle to Vancouver for The Big Game and want a scenic alternative that parallels I-5, Chuckanut Drive is a must! Connecting Burlington to Bellingham, this 20-mile road snakes along the coastal bluffs of Samish Bay, bringing island and mountain views—and some delicious bites and stunning viewpoints along the way!

The Cascade Loop Scenic byway is a 440-mile scenic roadtrip spanning through 9 unique regions of Washington—Skagit Valley being one of them! State Route 20 leaves the towering peaks of North Cascades National Park and follows the Skagit River through the Skagit Valley’s mountain foothills and acres of farmland, through artistic communities, to the coastal beaches of Fidalgo Island.

Outdoor Activities

Whale watching is one of Skagit Valley’s most popular experiences, and June is an especially wonderful time to go with the sunny weather. Spot orcas, humpback whales, puffins, sea lions and more for a day of incredible wildlife viewing.

Hiking in Skagit is an excellent summer activity. Oyster Dome is a must—with towering views of Samish Bay and the San Juan Islands, it is a challenging yet rewarding hike that brings incredible scenery. Across the valley, hikes in the North Cascades such as Picture Lake or Rasar State Park near Concrete are great for immersing yourself in the beauty of the mountains.
