Skagit County Travel Updates
There are currently two travel advisories impacting travel across Skagit County. A year-long construction project is underway on the SR 536 Skagit River Bridge in Mount Vernon, and preliminary work has begun on a new roundabout at the SR 20 / Campbell Lake Road intersection south of Anacortes. Details on both projects, including detour routes and construction timelines, are available below.
SR 20 / Campbell Lake Road Roundabout
Preliminary work is now underway on an intersection improvement project to enhance safety along State Route 20 by building a new roundabout at Campbell Lake Road. Most construction for the new roundabout south of Anacortes will be complete in July 2027, weather permitting.
SR 20 travelers also can expect 19 consecutive days of alternating, one-way traffic beginning in mid-August while crews prepare the area near the intersection for the roundabout’s construction.
Skagit River Bridge
Due to maintenance and painting, travelers will experience a full eastbound closure of SR 536 over the bridge, with the exception of emergency vehicles. All eastbound passenger and freight vehicles must follow a signed detour using northbound Avon Allen Road, eastbound SR 20 and southbound I-5.
Pedestrian Access & Shuttle: The bridge will remain open to pedestrian and bicyclist traffic. A free shuttle service will be available for pedestrians and bicyclists who wish to cross during the full closures of the bridge. Pick-up and drop-off points will be located near both ends of the bridge.
Westbound Traffic: During this project, the westbound lanes will experience several full closures at night and on select weekends. While these full closures are in effect, a signed detour will be in place for westbound drivers. Access to the bridge for emergency response vehicles will be maintained through these closures.
