Skagit Valley announced as Rural Tourism Support Program Destination
State of Washington Tourism Partnership
The Skagit Valley will be the next regional destination to participate in the State of Washington Tourism (SWT) Rural Tourism Support (RTS) program. The program implements a community tourism approach to destination stewardship, including a steering committee of local leaders, public workshops, action teams for grant projects, and a 10-year vision for tourism in the area.
“With its rich heritage, stunning landscapes, and vibrant communities, Skagit County is well-positioned to leverage its unique resources to attract visitors and drive economic growth while ensuring tourism remains sustainable and beneficial for visitors and residents,” said Kristen Keltz, CEO of the Skagit Tourism Bureau.
After participating in the RTS program, Skagit Valley will adopt a series of destination promotion and management strategies that include the development of year-round tourism experiences and messaging for responsible travel.
The RTS program, designed and facilitated by Crosscurrent Collective, was launched in 2021 and has become the cornerstone of SWT’s destination development efforts. It serves as a vital resource for underserved communities, providing industry research, consulting services, and grant funding.
