"Where Our Food Comes From: Honoring the Farmworkers and Farmers of Skagit County"
About
Many people have never set foot on a farm, especially if you live in the city. In Skagit County we are fortunate enough that we have farm fields all around us, but even driving by is not the same as meeting the farmers and farm workers who grow our food.
This gap between consumer and farmer allows us to disassociate the human element that goes into producing our food and judge its value not by the labor and work that it takes to grow it, but by what the markets dictate.
The Skagit County Historical Museum’s upcoming exhibit “Where Our Food Comes From: Honoring the Farmers and Farmworkers of Skagit County” aims to reconnect our audience with the people who produce their food. This exhibit was built upon the work featured in local Author and Photographer, Craig J. Barber’s new book “Where Our Food Comes From: The Magic of the Skagit Valley.” With Craig’s work in mind, we reached out to farms, farmworkers, and organizations that support local agriculture from all over the county to show the consumer – “Where Our Food Comes From.”
*This exhibit will be provided in both English and Spanish made possible with a donation from the Skagitonians to Preserve Farmland.
