From Equality Colony to Freeland: a cooperative journey
The socialist founders of Equality Colony saw the utopian community as planting the seeds of reformation in the political state of Washington. As it evolved a group of idealists left the colony to follow their beliefs and founded Freeland, a Rochdale town described by the Whidbey Islander as “a settlement of socialists cooperating on semi-capitalistic principles.” Learn what that meant to both communities.
