Nestled between the Cascade Mountains and the Salish Sea, the Skagit Valley is known for its breathtaking landscapes, rich agricultural heritage, and vibrant wildlife. While the Valley itself is famous for its tulip fields and scenic beauty, it also serves as a gateway to one of the most exhilarating experiences the Pacific Northwest has to offer: whale watching.
The Skagit Valley’s strategic location makes it an excellent base for whale watching. Just a short drive from Mount Vernon and Burlington, you can reach the coastal waters of the Salish Sea in Anacortes and La Conner, where some of the world’s most magnificent marine mammals reside. The proximity to both the San Juan Islands and Deception Pass means that the opportunities to witness these giants of the sea are practically at your doorstep.
Sarah Walls, owner of Cedarbrook Studio, shared with us her photos from a tour with Outer Island Excursions last weekend!
“The day started out with some magical fog and ended with beautiful views and blue sky. We enjoyed learning about the T49a’s, steller sea lions, eagles, shorebirds and more. My friend (visiting from New York) and I also really appreciated hearing about the protective measures in place to ensure that the boats are a safe distance from the whales. Drew did a great job staying a safe distance away as there were several other boats and everyone was trying to see the whales at the same time. It was a gorgeous day to enjoy the Salish Sea.”
