Skagit Valley Highland Games 2015

highland_games_2014Get ready for the 21st annual Skagit Valley Highland Games & Celtic Festival, July 11-12, 2015, at Edgewater Park in Mount Vernon, WA. Held the second full weekend each July, this Festival attracts over 10,000 people each year. Think of it as a kind of “Scottish 3-ring circus;’ with a wide range of activities for young and old alike.

The Skagit Valley Highland Games 2015 is part of an annual circuit of Scottish competitions held in the Pacific Northwest and Lower Mainland of British Columbia. As such, the quality of performers in solo bagpiping and drumming competitions, bagpipe bands, fiddling, traditional Scottish athletics (the “heavy” events) and Scottish Highland dancing is at an extremely high level.

Stuart Liddell is coming to the Northwest!

We are excited to announce that 2014 Glenfiddich Champion Stuart Liddell will be joining us for the 2015 Skagit Valley Highland Games! Stuart will be adjudicating at the games as well as performing at our Gathering of the Clans event on Friday, July 10, and during the games. From Inveraray, Scotland, Stuart is one of the world’s most gifted and incredible piper-musicians playing today. His 2015 performance of “Thunderstruck” by ACDC at Benaroya Hall in Seattle was one of the concert highlights. Fresh off of leading the Inveraray and District Pipe Band to the Grade II World Championship, Stuart promptly turned around and again won the prestigious Clasp and Quaich at the Northern Meeting in Inverness in September of this year. Stuart has won most of the top awards in solo piping in Scotland, including the Gold Medals at both the Argyllshire Gathering and Northern Meeting. Stuart routinely dazzles audiences around the world with the blazing speed and dexterity of his playing, however prizes collected over the years at the top competitions demonstrate an appreciation and understanding of traditional playing styles as well.
